Tiramisu

There are many recipes for Tiramisu, which means "pick me up” or "lift me up,” and Italians say the "lift me up" is to heaven. This is a traditional recipe. If you wish to avoid the use of raw eggs, make a zabaglione with the yolks, sugar, coffee and coffee liqueur.
INGREDIENTS
2 hours serves 6
2 egg yolks
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 pound mascarpone cheese
3/4 cup strong black coffee
1 tablespoon Kahlua or other coffee liqueur
24 small savoiardi (lady fingers)
1 to 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
Put the egg yolks, sugar and vanilla in a bowl, and mix gently to a creamy consistency. Fold in the mascarpone to make a cream.

Mix the coffee with the coffee liqueur. Dip the lady fingers for a second or two into the coffee mixture, making sure they do not become too soggy.

Starting with the lady fingers, arrange on individual plates, alternating layers of lady fingers and mascarpone cream, ending with the cream.

Dust the servings generously with cocoa powder, and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours to set and chill before serving.
